No – just use your thermostat as you normally would. The system will tweak the energy consumption at peak times and you can opt out at any time.

Under certain conditions, such as when a power plant drops offline, the electric grid can become unstable. This can strain the power infrastructure causing dirtier fuel sources to be leveraged, and in extreme cases, the grid can run short on power supply, leading to brownouts or blackouts. During these times and when demand approaches capacity, we may adjust your usage to help keep energy costs low and the grid stable — this is called Demand Response.
The Connected Savings® program optimizes the thermostat settings to keep customers as comfortable as possible when grid emergencies occur. When there is enough lead time, the Connected Savings® program precools or preheats properties in advance of the event periods and rotates cooling/heating across all houses in the program to balance how much energy is used across the community, while keeping customers comfortable.
That depends on a few factors, including weather and location. We monitor the number of times you will be asked to help and keep the number of events as low as possible. Remember that, even during emergencies, the Connected Savings® program keeps properties within a few degrees of a comfortable setting.
Yes, you can override a particular grid emergency event at any time. Overriding an event can be done at the thermostat, its web portal, or the mobile app. Simply change the temperature during an event to cancel it. To be removed from the Connected Savings® program entirely, send an opt-out email request to energysupport@resideo.com.
Of course – nothing changes on your billing or details with your utility. As part of the enrollment process, you will be asked to authorize Resideo’s agent to obtain energy usage data associated with your utility account on a secure and confidential basis, and only for the purpose of enrollment and participation. If you want to restrict access to your data, please send an email to energysupport@resideo.com and you will be un-enrolled from the program.
We will send a donation to the One Tree Planted charity in June 2022.
