Program FAQS
Tara Energy is teaming up with Resideo’s Connected Savings® platform to power our Stat Rewards program. Stat Rewards aims to reduce the strain on the electrical grid during peak demand or elevated wholesale pricing, called an “Energy Savings Event.”
Program participants will receive a notification through their smart thermostat’s app and on the thermostat itself when an Energy Savings Event occurs and adjusts the thermostat setting by a few degrees. However, participants will never lose control of their thermostats. If you do not want to participate in an Energy Savings Event, simply change your thermostat settings.
Just by being a Stat Rewards participant, you will receive a $50 bill credit within 90 days of your application acceptance and a Stat Rewards half cent ($0.005) per kWh discount within one to two billing cycles. To qualify, participants must have an eligible Amazon or Honeywell smart thermostat connected to the program. Adjusting your thermostat settings during an Energy Savings Event does not impact your participation.
Applying is simple through Resideo’s Connected Savings® platform
You will receive the initial $50 bill credit and a Stat Rewards energy charge discount, and also assist your community in times of peak demand and elevated pricing. Peak Demand events can lead to grid instability. When the grid is unstable, serious grid failures can cause brownouts or blackouts that impact your entire community. In addition, to meet demand during periods of high usage, the grid relies on carbon-based fuels such as coal or natural gas. By shifting your usage during these periods, you can help the environment by minimizing your carbon footprint.
You will begin to receive the Stat Rewards energy charge discount within one to two billing cycles and the $50 bill credit within 90 days of enrollment acceptance and installation of your smart thermostat device.
Energy Savings Events occur during times of peak electricity demand and elevated prices. They usually occur during seasonal weather peaks and lows between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday, but may also be at any other time.
During an Energy Savings Event, you will receive a notification through your smart thermostat’s app and on the smart thermostat itself. The thermostat settings will adjust by a few degrees to lower your electricity usage. Simply opt out of an event by changing your thermostat settings during the event.
You will always receive notice of an Energy Savings Event at the scheduled event start time. You will see a message displayed on your thermostat display as well as in your thermostat's app. Notice is unavailable prior to this as Energy Savings events trigger immediately based on the most current grid and market conditions.
Participants may opt out of an Energy Savings Event by selecting the opt-out option in their mobile app, or by simply adjusting their thermostat settings.
Participants will retain complete control over their thermostat(s) throughout an Energy Savings Event. You will always be able to raise or lower your thermostat temperature, even in the middle of an Energy Savings Event.
You will remain on the same Tara Energy electricity plan with no changes. However, you will receive a Stat Rewards discount off your energy rate by half cent ($0.005) per kWh within one to two billing cycles of your application acceptance. This discount will show up as a separate line item on your bill. In addition, you will receive a $50 bill credit within 90 days of your application acceptance.
Peak Demand events can lead to grid instability. When the grid is unstable, serious grid failures can cause brownouts or blackouts that impact your entire community. Demand Response programs, such as the Stat Rewards Program, provide retail electricity providers and the ERCOT market with valuable reliability and economic services by preserving system reliability, mitigating price spikes, and encouraging the market to respond better to these events.
As these events may occur during times of elevated market pricing, the flexibility provided by this program is invaluable to retail electric providers, such as Tara Energy, in mitigating risk and allowing us to provide reliable, low-cost energy in the future.
You may opt out of the Stat Rewards Program entirely by sending an opt-out request email to energysupport@resideo.com. You may also call Tara Energy Customer Care. Please note that opting out suspends the half cent ($0.005) per kWh rate reduction, the removal of which will reflect on the next month’s bill.
If you are a current customer of Tara Energy, there is no impact on your current energy plan. After your application’s acceptance, your monthly bill will reflect the half cent ($0.005) per kWh discount within the one to two billing cycles, and your one-time $50 credit will reflect on your bill within 90 days. These will show up as a separate line item on your bill.
If you are not currently a customer of Tara Energy, you will need to sign up for a Tara Energy electricity plan to participate the Stat Rewards program. See our plan options here.
Nothing changes on your billing or details with your utility. As part of the enrollment process, you will be asked to authorize Resideo's agent to obtain energy usage data associated with your utility account on a secure and confidential basis, and only for the purpose of enrollment and participation. If you have questions about how the program accesses your data, please send an email to energysupport@resideo.com.
You may enroll as many qualified Wi-Fi enabled thermostats as are installed in your home. The incentive is paid per-home, but the more thermostats you can enroll, the larger contribution you can make to the grid. Applying is simple through Resideo’s Connected Savings® platform.
